Lightning is no joke

(Photo from nrk.no)

323 wild reindeer killed by lightning. It’s rather mind boggling. They still don’t know exactly how it happened, but I’m morbidly fascinated. A whole flock dead within a few minutes, up in the mountains. At least it was quick. So if anyone doubts the incredibly destructive power of lightning, here’s proof you don’t need to be hit directly to die. The lightning hit the ground, and ka-zam! 323 reindeer were electrocuted.

About thenaughtybun

Mother of two, diagnosed with MS in '94, and have been on a mission ever since. Constantly searching for the best health possible, and trying out all kinds of stuff to be able to live a good life, MS or not. My goal is to leave the MS behind, but that has yet to come (haven't given up hope, though!).

I did read a headline about dead reindeer but thought it was some sort of weird culling (shooting). This is more than a tad weirder!

  3. whoa – never seen something like ths before! that´s.. scary!

    • It is! The game keeper/warden who found them was rather surprised. They have a theory that it was because they have four legs, so the current traveled up all four and generated a huge voltage. Or something. It was obviously quick though, and that’s a blessing.
